A: You’ll need to log into Xbox Live (no need for gold) and insert the disc. You can either wait for the prompt once the game starts or go to the Xbox Store, where you’ll will find the new version of the game.
If you haven’t played in the past 12 months, you can play five hours or purchase DLC before January 30th 2018 to unlock your upgrade.
Q: What’s the Better Together Update redemption process for disc owners?
We’re working to bring the Better Together Update to additional platforms such as the Nintendo Switch, and we will have more updates to share soon. A: The Bedrock Engine can save files wherever they would naturally go on each platform.
Saves are cloud-based on Xbox One, and local on all other platforms.
You can read more about the fancy features in the update here.
And what does means players on those platforms will be able to join each other in-game, create, cooperate or compete together on massive servers, and access whatever swish skins and Marketplace adventure maps they own on any of their compatible devices.
If you’ve either played five hours in the last 12 months, or have bought DLC at any time, the new game should show up as free to download.
If not, you can fulfill either of the conditions above before January 30th 2018 and then come back to the store to download.
Our general rule of thumb is that if a version can play together with the others, it’s called Minecraft.
